A tab ló

Hansen has long used her own photographs as collage material, saying, “I discover more magic and mystery by juxtaposing and layering images.”

She hand colors her black and white silver gelatin prints, uses them in combination with words (not quite poetry), combines dozens of small 4 x 4 inch color prints in grid-like patterns, and often adds findings gathered from drawers, resale shops and neighborhood walks.

A tab lo’ combines photography, paint, objects and words. Making a collage, arranging tabletop objects and embellishing a chandelier are for Hansen, meanders, her way of ‘seeing’. She says the destination – the completed piece – is always a surprise. Her eye is unerring.
